Bitch blocks bebo

Thanks to Seaside man on askoranswer blog I have now managed to block bebo. I have done so because the blonde has been spending time on there chatting to her mates, but some of them are 2 years older than her and there seems to be flirting going on - totally unsuitable for a 10year old! I did speak to her but as she uses the computer for other stuff unless one of us stands over her it is impossible to police it.

I feel like a complete cow for blocking the site, but can't help being relieved that when you try and access it, it just says windows cannot access the page and not YOUR BITCH MUM HAS BLOCKED THE SITE - GO AND STAB HER WITH A KNITTING NEEDLE!

Will now have a stroppy kid around the place who will be bemused by it all and hate the computer for a while - until she discovers that it has indeed been blocked and finds a way to unblock it that is! Kids, dontcha just love em?

When we were fostering, we used some great software called Cyberpatrol.

It sits between the user and the internet connection and lets you control EVERYTHING they are able to do online. Websites, chat, email, time spent online, the lot. You set up profiles for different people with different permissions, there's automatic blocking of inappropriate websites and you can override anything that gets blocked by mistake. You can even get reports of what sites kids have TRIED to access that were blocked.

The best thing for us was a feature that monitored what was being typed and blocked out your phone number or address. You put in your details in a box, and if anyone tries to type them into a website or chat window, it turns it into gibberish. Fantastic, and great peace of mind. It can block out swear words too.

Nothing is foolproof, there are ways round everything, but I think at 10 years old you should be safe even if she's a budding superhacker.

Two downsides. It's not free, and if your computer is a bit old it can slow it down because it's always running in the background.

BTW if I have blocked it on my machine do i have to do it on all the others in the house or will it happen automatically cos they are on the same server?

  The way you've done it will only block that machine.
  
  If you block it via the router, it will block all devices connected to it.

well done you...thats good.Nothing wrong with protecting a child from the dangers of internet.
Since there are other social networking websites available , brace for blocking another
There are some third party softwares available.Here is one

I have been learning all the 'secret codes' for MSN..

POS= Parent Over shoulder..in other word's..carefull what you type!
PHAT= pretty hot and tempting!
MW's=Mum's Watching!! ...Yeah....I made that last one up!

I have parent guardian set on my PC..It sends me an E Mail daily of what sites she visit's..but not whats she chats about on MSN.. I only get to see that when I nose! You have to block certain sites as you can never be too carefull..You just don't know if that 10year old boy really is who he say's he is..Plus even when they are,what they say is often inappropriate!

Me and eldest have many a row over the internet..I am due a stabbing too..but I don't own knitting needles..And i hide all my knives! xxx

  I know I have told her all that and she still does it - she hangs around with kids that are 12 and she is only 10, but acting like a bloody stroppy 16 year old - hubby says he is moving into a hotel when she hits puberty!! I hate doing it but someone has to protect them from themselves! Hubby thought he had caught her out the other day and asked her to explain what WTF meant as she had written it - she stopped him dead by saying it means why the face??? I think not.
  I am dreading it later when she can't get onto it, but even more so when she figures it out x

      I really was, I think it would be a great idea for a company, arrange to meet them, throw them into the back of a van and abandon them in a place prearranged with the parents just for an hour or so - hubby says that would lead to a life of therapy - I think it would teach the little buggers that actually we do sometimes know what we are on about x

A very good move hun I know she wont appreciate it and will probably sulk and huff for a few weeks, but you have to try and keep them safe, which is never easy especially when the school playground teaches them how to bypass parents IT security Good luck

good on ya chuck there are so many strange people out here on the web and kids dont realise what they are getting into sometimes a program like scooby was on about sounds good I am gonna have to start looking into things like this when Belle realises that these computers can be used for stuff other than watching spongebob

definitely a good move, my sis used to use bebo aged 17 and she managed to get computer viruses from it 3 times. She just didn't read/understand all the pop up warning boxes.
